Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT) is a medical treatment that involves breathing pure oxygen in a pressurized environment, typically in a hyperbaric chamber. This therapy is used to enhance the body’s natural healing processes by increasing the amount of oxygen delivered to tissues.

Here’s how it works:

Pressurized Environment:

The patient is placed in a hyperbaric chamber where the atmospheric pressure is increased to 1.5 to 3 times the normal atmospheric pressure. This allows the lungs to take in much more oxygen than would be possible at normal air pressure.

Oxygen Delivery:

The increased oxygen in the bloodstream helps to improve the oxygen supply to tissues that are damaged or at risk, promoting healing. This can be particularly beneficial for conditions like non-healing wounds, carbon monoxide poisoning, decompression sickness (often associated with diving), and certain types of infections.

Treatment Sessions:

Each session typically lasts between 60 to 120 minutes, and patients may require multiple sessions depending on the condition being treated.

HBOT is recognized for its ability to accelerate healing and reduce inflammation, making it useful in various medical and therapeutic settings.
